A Fresh Twist on Salmon: Salmon Tikka with Spiced Yogurt Marinade

a plate with salmmon bites and mint sauce

Salmon is one of those go-to proteins that’s easy to cook, packed with nutrients, and always delicious. But if you’re looking for a fresh, bold way to enjoy it—something with a little more kick—this recipe is for you. Inspired by the flavors of South Asian cooking, this Salmon Tikka is rich, vibrant, and incredibly easy to make.

The yogurt marinade keeps the salmon tender while a mix of warm spices like cumin, coriander, and paprika give it deep flavor. A squeeze of lemon or lime adds brightness, and the whole thing comes together in under 30 minutes, making it perfect for a weeknight meal that still feels special.

Why This Recipe Works

Salmon: Delicious and Packed with Benefits

Salmon is more than just tasty—it’s one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which help reduce inflammation, support brain function, and keep hormones balanced. It’s also packed with high-quality protein and essential vitamins like B12 and D. Basically, if you’re looking for a meal that’s as nutritious as it is satisfying, this is it.

A Marinade That Does the Work for You

The best part about this recipe? The marinade does all the heavy lifting. While the salmon sits and soaks up the flavors, you can prep a side dish or just relax. The yogurt helps keep the salmon juicy, while the blend of garlic, ginger, and spices adds layers of warmth and depth. A little heat from cayenne or chili powder balances everything out, making every bite packed with flavor.

Easy, Foolproof Cooking

This recipe is as easy as marinate, bake, and enjoy. And because the salmon is cut into smaller pieces, it cooks fast. Just pop it in a hot oven for about 8-10 minutes, and you’re good to go.

Salmon Tikka Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 2-3)

  • 400g skinless salmon, rinsed and patted dry

  • ~75 g plain whole-milk Greek yogurt

  • 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 ½ tbsp lemon or lime juice

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp coriander powder

  • 1 tsp cumin powder

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp red chili powder or cayenne

  • ½ tsp salt

Mint Raita
  • 1 bunch mint (20g)

  • 1 small garlic clove, minced

  • 1 tbsp Greek yogurt

Garnish
  • Mint raita, optional, for serving

  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro leaves

Instructions:

Cut the salmon into 3 cm pieces and place them in a medium bowl.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the yogurt, ginger, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and spices until well combined. Pour the marinade over the salmon, toss to coat evenly, and let it sit for at least 10 minutes (or up to an hour for deeper flavor).

Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 220°C.

Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Arrange the marinated salmon pieces on the prepared baking sheet, brushing any remaining marinade over them. Position on the rack near the top and bake for 8-10 minutes, until golden brown and slightly charred at the edges.

Keep an eye on the salmon—if smaller pieces cook faster, remove them early while the rest finish cooking. But no need to stress; the yogurt marinade keeps everything tender and flavorful, even if some pieces stay in a little longer.

Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve immediately with mint raita, sliced onions, lemon wedges, and your favorite sides. Enjoy!

What to Serve with It

This salmon pairs beautifully with warm naan, rice, or a fresh cucumber salad. It’s also great in a wrap or on top of a grain bowl for an easy, protein-packed meal.

However you serve it, this is one of those simple but flavor-packed recipes that’s sure to become a favorite.

Try it and let me know what you think!
